International Talk Like Jar Jar Binks Day

Star Wars: Age Of The Republic Special #1 is available today, which is bombad news because Jar Jar Binks appears in the comic. Spoilers follow, so be warned.

The last of the 3 stories in the book, (the other two feature Mace Windu and Asajj Ventress respectively) shows Captain Rex and the 501st at the Battle of Mimban. With them as well is Senator Jar Jar Binks, who the Clones brought with them to interface with the Mimbanese.  After the Jedi General who is leading them, Laan Tik, gets killed, Rex orders a retreat, but secretly sets out to destroy the shield generator by himself. Jar Jar follows Rex and ends up saving his life by cutting down some battle droids with a lightsaber. Jar Jar questions the intelligence of Rex setting out by himself. Rex, who, with the other Clones, had underestimated Jar Jar earlier, acknowledges the Gungan's bravery, hands him a weapon, and the two of them face the droid army and head off to take down the shield generator together.

All in all, I enjoyed the comic. It features Jar Jar acting a little cowardly at the beginning, but ultimately shows him displaying his bravery and loyalty to his friends, coming through when he's most needed. This is consistent with what we've learned about Jar Jar over the years.

It also features Jar Jar wielding a lightsaber, which will give some credence to the popular Darth Jar Jar theory. He seems to handle the weapon pretty well, slicing a couple of battle droids in half to save Rex. Then of course he drops it and almost gets himself killed, but that could all be for show.

If you like Jar Jar, I suggest you pick up the comic or get it digitally. It's a fun read and good to see Jar Jar portrayed in a positive light.
