International Talk Like Jar Jar Binks Day

Ever since the announcement of the Kenobi series this past summer, we here at the official International Talk Like Jar Jar Binks Day website have been hoping that our favorite Gungan might make an appearance.

Well it now appears that that exact thing might happen! According to a report on Making Star Wars, Jar Jar is rumored to be a part of the show, which will star Ewan McGregor and air on Disney+ sometime in the near future. Supposedly Jar Jar will even sport a beard. From the article: "I’m told there is a sequence where the bearded Jar Jar Binks and Obi-Wan talk about the past. There will be Jedi/Gungan beard time coming soon to the series."

We're being cautiously optimistic here at the ITLJJBD. We would absolutely love to see Jar Jar again, particularly if he's being performed by Ahmed Best. Most of Obi-Wan's friends and colleagues are dead or in hiding. It would make perfect sense for Jar Jar and Obi-Wan to meet up and commiserate or even have some adventures in the time between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.

Even if this rumor is correct, and Jar Jar is being considered for a role on the show, things could still change. The Deborah Chow directed series won't start shooting until this coming Summer, and Jar Jar could be cut or the story could change. Still it's really exciting to think that we could be seeing new live action Jar Jar in the next year or two. No air date has been set for the series, but it's likely that we'll see it sometime in 2021.

We know that a lot of talented artists are in the International Talk Like Jar Jar Binks Day community, and we'd love to see your interpretations of Jar Jar with a beard. We probably won't know for sure if this rumor is true until the series airs or at least gets closer, but it's fun to think about. What do you want to see out of a Jar Jar appearance on the Obi-Wan series? Let us know!
