The Great ‘Is Jar Jar the father?’ Art Contest
Here at International Talk Like Jar Jar Binks Day headquarters, we’ve recently been reading the great The Making of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith by the late J.W. Rinzler. This book, released in the leadup to Episode III in 2005, offers an exclusive look behind the scenes of the final film in the prequel trilogy, and is a template for Rinzler’s later Making of books for the original trilogy. As such it offers some great insight into George Lucas’ thoughts during the time of the filming, as well as the scuttlebutt on set.
In one section the book mentions how, when they are shooting close-ups of Natalie Portman as Padmé in her coffin, the crew starts pondering what the gossip regarding Padmé’s pregnancy might be on Naboo.
George Lucas hears this, and chimes in, with his clearly canon take on the situation:
“Everyone’s talking about it there,” Lucas says. “The tabloids say Jar Jar is the father.”
This made us wonder, what might such tabloids look like? Therefore, this year’s art contest challenge is to design the front page of one of the Naboo tabloids which is declaring that Jar Jar is the father of Padme’s child(ren).

Voting will begin on Monday, August 11th, 2025 on the International Talk Like Jar Jar Binks Day website, open to all users. Voting will end on Monday, August 18th, 2025 at 11:59PM, Eastern Time (ET). The winning entries will be posted on the International Talk Like Jar Jar Binks website and the winners will be notified via email on or about Tuesday, August 19th, 2025 (International Talk Like Jar Jar Binks Day!).
