International Talk Like Jar Jar Binks Day

One-shot comic Jar Jar #1 is out now

Star Wars: Jar Jar #1, a one-shot comic from Marvel, featuring a team-up of Gungan Representative Jar Jar Binks and Jedi Master Kelleran Beq set between Episodes II and III, was released today, on February 11th, 2026.

The issue was cowritten by Ahmed Best, who is famously the actor for both Binks and Beq. Although Jar Jar and Master Beq have appeared in numerous projects over the past few decades, this is the first time that they’ve ever interacted in any medium.

The comic starts with Jar Jar heading to the planet Urubai aboard his ship, the Heyblibber Duck, with The Phantom Menace‘s Ric Olié piloting the vehicle. When they arrive, Jar Jar wanders off to find his contact, and a seemingly helpful local tries to mug him. The thief is scared off my Kelleran Beq, who reveals that he is the one who arranged for Jar Jar to be called to Urubai. Beq wants Jar Jar to see the harsh conditions that the miners on Urubai, who he refers to as the Unseen, are forced to endure.

Jar Jar is distressed, when Beq makes it clear that the workers are able to be exploited because of the emergency powers that Jar Jar helped Palpatine obtain, but Beq doesn’t blame him. He just wanted Jar Jar to see the situation with his own eyes, so that he might be willing to try to help the Unseen.

He then informs Jar Jar that the overmining has made the planet unstable, and that the planet core is in danger of melting down. He says Jar Jar can make things better by being a voice for the Unseen.

Beq’s local contact rushes up to them and tells them about a recently discovered and important new mineral that has allowed the Urubaians to set up a prototype fractal radio network. This network would allow secure private communications to be shared, a useful tool for those opposing tyranny. Those with power do not like the idea of such a network existing, and this has led to a bounty being placed on the head of the inventor of that network, Mira.

Two bounty hunters, one of whom is Aurra Sing, arrive to murder Mira. Beq tells Mira to grab what she can, and they attempt to flee. The bounty hunters arrive and start firing. Beq ignites his lightsaber and deflects the bounty hunters’ shots, while Jar Jar and Mira board Jar Jar’s ship, the Heyblibber Duck. Ric Olié takes off, but not before Aurra Sing can stow aboard.

Master Beq And Sing fight, while Sing’s partner, Rum Sleg, fires upon the Heyblibber Duck from his own ship. Olié is injured, forcing Jar Jar to take control of the ship. Jar Jar is not great at flying, but manages to get the Duck to hyperspace, after Beq knocks Sing unconscious.

They make it to Coruscant where we learn that Mira’s last name is Bridger, establishing her as the mother of future Jedi, and star of Star Wars: Rebels, Ezra Bridger. Jar Jar then goes to meet with Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, where he talks about the danger to Urubai and advocates for the miners, insisting, as the individual who gave the Supreme Chancellor his emergency powers, that Palpatine do something. Palpatine says he’ll make sure that the planet is stable, but doesn’t know what else he can do for the laborers. Jar Jar offers to be Palpatine’s voice on Urubai. Palpatine agrees, and then reveals that he knows all about Master Beq and Jar Jar’s exploits on Urubai, which surprises Jar Jar.

Wink
WINK!

When Beq and Jar Jar meet afterwards, Jar Jar says he thinks Palpatine is up to something and that they’re going to need to start their own network – not just the fractal radio network that Mira created, but also a network of people, like the Unseen – people who can work in the shadows. Beq says that they’re going to need someone to go out and find those people, and Jar Jar says that he knows just the Jedi to do it. Beq agrees to the job, as long as he can use the Heyblibber Duck whenever he needs it. Jar Jar says that they have a deal and they shake hands. The end panel reads “The Beginning.”

This comic was everything we were hoping for in a Jar Jar comic. The artwork is great, and the story is fun and expands on Jar Jar and Kelleran Beq’s stories. Ahmed Best clearly has a lot of insight into Jar Jar’s character and writes him well. In the story, Jar Jar’s a little naive, a little clumsy, but kind-hearted and ultimately trying to do the right thing. His actions provide a lot of humor, but we also get to see him standing up to, and even manipulating, Palpatine.

Jar Jar’s conversation with Beq at the end also indicates that the two are starting to lay the groundwork for what will ultimately become the Rebel Alliance and/or the Hidden Path, the network mentioned in Obi-Wan Kenobi used to ferry Force sensitive individuals to safety. We’ve long suggested that Jar Jar should be a secret member of the Rebel Alliance, and this comic strongly implies that that’s exactly what ends up happening.

WINK again
WINK again!

Beq saying he wishes to use the Duck whenever necessary, is a clear reference to the episode of The Mandalorian where the Jedi Master rescues Grogu from the Jedi Temple, and appears to be using Jar Jar’s ship.

We strongly suggest you pick up this comic, physically or digitally, or maybe both. Although this is listed as a one-shot, we’re hoping that this is not the last time Ahmed Best gets to write for Jar Jar and Kelleran Beq.

Besides Best, the comic was written by Marc Guggenheim and illustrated by Laura Braga, Kieran McKeown, and Michael Atiyeh.
